The overall aim of the International Health Partnership for UHC 2030 is to create a movement for accelerated, equitable and sustainable progress towards universal health coverage (UHC). Achieving UHC means everyone will have access to essential health services – including safe, effective and affordable medicines and vaccines – without financial hardship.

The sustainable development goals (SDGs) include a specific target to achieve UHC. This presents an opportunity to promote a comprehensive approach to health, focusing on health system strengthening. The benefits of UHC cuts across all the SDG health targets, including global security and equity.

GAVI’S ROLE

Gavi’s mission is closely linked to the UHC agenda. Immunisation routinely reaches more children and households than any other health intervention, making it a solid platform from which to build universal health coverage.

We engage in UHC through many different forums, including the UHC 2030 Steering Committee (shared seat with the Global Fund) and associated technical advisory bodies.
