The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host a high-level conference for Gavi’s 2018 Mid-Term Review (MTR) in Abu Dhabi on 10-11 December 2018. The conference will set out a vision for the future of the Gavi model and take stock of the Alliance’s performance halfway through its current five-year strategic period (2016-2020).
“The MTR will not only reflect on our results in the past years, it will also help shape the future of Gavi’s innovative model,” says Gavi CEO Dr Seth Berkley, looking ahead to the event.
New alliances
By outlining new ways of working with partners, the event will also allow Gavi to forge new alliances with the private sector and adopt transformative solutions to advance the global immunisation agenda. Over 200 participants are expected to come to Abu Dhabi, including senior representatives from donor and Gavi-supported countries, partner organisations, civil society, and innovators from the pharmaceutical industry and other sectors.
“We see this event as a great opportunity to celebrate 10 million lives saved, conduct the Mid-Term Review and look to the years ahead,” said the UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, HE Reem Al Hashimy, when she announced the event on 18 April. By the time the meeting takes place, Gavi support will have helped the world’s poorest countries immunise 700 million people, helping to save 10 million lives since the Alliance was set up in 2000.
