INCREASING ACCESS TO INFORMATION
Vaccine Detailed product profiles (DPPs): DPPs give countries easy access to up-to-date and comprehensive information on Gavi-supported vaccines. They also provide an overview of all WHO prequalified products for the vaccine groups that Gavi supports.
The DPPs allow countries to compare prequalified vaccine products, informing them of all options. The DPPs are referenced in the application guidelines as important tools to facilitate decision-making.
Cold Chain Equipment (CCE) Technology Guide: The CCE Technology Guide includes all CCE that is eligible for procurement through Gavi’s Cold Chain Equipment Optimisation Platform (CCEOP), CCE that is referred to as being ‘platform-eligible.’ These CCE have been prequalified by the WHO Performance, Quality and Safety process, and also satisfy a higher standard of performance criteria beyond minimum WHO PQS requirements.
The CCE Technology Guide allows countries to compare all CCEOP platform-eligible equipment, and is an important to tool to inform decision-making, as referenced in the CCEOP application guidelines.
INFORMED DECISION-MAKING
When selecting the most appropriate product, countries are encouraged to consider factors beyond procurement cost and country co-financing requirements. The DPPs also include information on vaccine presentations, wastage rates, manufacturers, cold chain volume and handling. They are updated on a fixed schedule (at least every six months) or more frequently if required.
The CCE Technology Guide provides countries with guidance on selecting cold chain equipment that will meet the needs of the country’s immunisation programme. The CCE Technology Guide currently includes the following categories of equipment: Ice-lined refrigerators and freezers, solar direct drive refrigerators and freezers, freeze-free vaccine carriers, freeze-free cold boxes, long-term passive devices, temperature monitoring devices, and voltage stabilizers. Information is also included on equipment pricing, estimated operating costs, and product specifications.
