Geneva, 9 May 2014 – The International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) this week singled out the GAVI Alliance for focusing on the quality as well as the quantity of data published on its website.
In a profile of the Alliance, IATI’s 2nd Annual Report recognised that GAVI Alliance data is available online in formats that are easy to access, analyse and reuse.
Last year, the Alliance placed second out of 67 international development organisations including UN agencies and donor governments, in Publish What You Fund’s Aid Transparency Index.
The IATI report highlights how greater transparency and accountability in the aid system could help combat many inefficiencies and problems in effective development.
Donors and implementing countries rightly expect to know how funds are being spent and that they are having the best possible impact.

These include corruption in the supply chain between donors and intended recipients and coordination between aid organisations.
The report concludes that the provision of better quality data can help developing country governments make more informed decisions on budgeting and resource allocation, increasing the impact of investments in development programmes.
