Minister Silvia Lutucuta

MINISTER OF HEALTH, ANGOLA

Silvia Lutucuta is Minister of Health of Angola since 2017. She studied medicine and obtained a scholarship in Portugal where she specialised in cardiology. From 2000 to 2004 she was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, having won awards for best research for three years. Before being nominated as Minister of Health, she dedicated herself to teaching and research.

Minister Lutucuta is passionate about public health and as a member of women’s organisations, a passionate advocate for women’s rights.

Since her nomination as Health Minister in 2017, Minister Lutucuta has been instrumental in leading important changes that allowed the incorporation of nearly 25,000 new health professionals in primary health care, mainly in rural areas, all in the context of serious economic crisis. As she considers vaccination to be the most economic and effective means to respond to public health needs, Angola has, under her leadership, committed to financing all of the vaccines of the Expanded Programme on Immunization.
