Bernhard Braune is Head of Division in the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development for Global Health Policy and Finance. The scope of this role includes German engagement with Gavi, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, as well as the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.
Dr Braune previously worked as Head of Division on Return and Reintegration Issues. Earlier assignments included Adviser to the Secretary of State in the Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and Head of Development Cooperation at the German Embassy in Dakar/Senegal. Before joining the Federal Ministry, he was a Senior Policy Officer in the legal department of the German Foreign Office.
Dr Braune holds a law degree from the Free University of Berlin, a Master’s degree in Comparative and International Law from the University of Stockholm, and a PhD in Public International Law also from the Free University of Berlin.
